Play is a big part of how we learn. Our brains, like our muscles, need exercise and challenges. We’re here to help.
Rings is fun for everyone, but it was designed with kids in mind. It’s safe, non-violent, and ad-free. It runs offline. There are no in-app purchases, and no links to outside content.
“Mathematically proficient students start by explaining to themselves the meaning of a problem and looking for entry points to its solution. They analyze givens, constraints, relationships, and goals. They make conjectures about the form and meaning of the solution and plan a solution pathway rather than simply jumping into a solution attempt. They consider analogous problems, and try special cases and simpler forms of the original problem in order to gain insight into its solution. They monitor and evaluate their progress and change course if necessary.”

Students get practice in abstract problem solving, pattern matching, and sequencing. And it’s all fast-paced fun. Students can jump quickly to any level, to pick up where they left off the last time they played. You can completely reset the game in just two taps, so it’s ready for the next class. An internet connection isn’t needed. Educational discounts are available.
We want everyone (disabled, special needs, and able-bodied) to be able to play. Reading ability doesn’t matter. There’s no timing involved, so kids on the autism spectrum can proceed at their own pace. The rings and positions are distinguished by both shape and color, so color blindness is never an issue. Levels can be played in any order. Moves involve sliding the rings along the paths. The hit areas are large. And there’s always Go Back and Try Again so everyone can easily recover from any mistakes.
I'd love to hear how it goes for you.
Enjoy the game!

Why did you create Rings?
Rings is a unique collection of transport puzzles. The inspiration came from classic railroad puzzles: Can two trains pass each other using a siding that seems too short? What’s the best way to get train cars in order for easy delivery? And a few others. These ideas morphed to glass beads following paths sketched on cardstock. Then morphed again. Rings emerged.
Rings is for everyone, ages 7 to adult. There’s no reading involved.
Rings runs on iPad and iPhone (iOS 12.0 or later) and on Mac (macOS 10.15 Catalina or later).
iPad (5th generation or later)
iPad Air, iPad Pro (all models)
iPad mini (2nd generation or later)
iPod Touch (6th generation or later)
iPhone (5s or later)
Mac (macOS 10.15 Catalina or later)
No. Sorry. We’re an Apple shop.
Yes. Just swipe between the levels.
No. Each device remembers exactly where you are in the game on that device. This allows different family members to be playing on different devices at the same time.
Yes. Check the App Store for Inch Worm, Inch Maker, and Pegs.
Please send an email to rick@whitepixels.com. Tell me what you where doing, and what went wrong. Let me know the device you were using, and the OS version. A screen shot might really help me figure things out. Thanks for your help.
